Gaby Magomola

Dr Magomola is an independent consultant and former senior banker, a business leader and elder whose career spans over fifty years both in SA and abroad. This elder’s lifetime work is a subject of several books; academic papers and writings by select scholars. He has served in senior executive and board level positions in local and multi-national banks including CITIBANK in New York and South Africa; Barclays Bank; First National as well as African Bank where he held the position of CEO. Up until recently he served as Deputy Chairman of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA)

A former Robben Island prisoner, Dr Magomola is a thought leader revered by many for his storied background including pioneering the economic inclusion of the disenfranchised and his consistent advocacy for business transformation in South Africa since the early eighties.

Over his lifetime, Magomola has been honored with multiple awards including a Fulbright Scholarship, and an honorary doctorate in Commerce and Economics for his achievements and work in helping to change lives. He is the author of the Award-winning autobiography “From Robben Island to Wall Street” published by University of South Africa (UNISA)
